How to reinstall a damaged package with Ubuntu 9.10

In recent years to install open source operating systems like Linux has become increasingly easy, thanks to the different guided installation mode and Windows-style graphical interfaces. However, if it happens an unexpected error is not able to act as well as would be natural with the most intuitive versions of Microsoft.
