Sony: Enters the SSD market with the consumer series SLW-M

Sony also will sell short a series of SSD, under the symbol SLW-M. But not Attendiamoci twists: first models will be only two, 240GB and 480GB, with SATA 6Gbps interface and performance in line with the competition.

According to reports from TechPowerUp, Sony makes its entrance into the world of Solid-State Drives, presenting the series that goes by the name of SLW-M. It is usual to expect big news when the giants are moving to make its own entrance in areas never previously occupied: Well, that’s not the case.

The units are made entirely ordinary, lacking the bargain of basic information such as the chips used and the controller. The definite information concerning the availability of two cuts, 240GB and 480GB, moreover marketed only in Japan, at least for now.

Facilities include the software to clone disks Acronis True Image and Sony SSD Toolbox for device management. The form factor is the 2.5-inch 7mm thick, the interface is SATA 6Gbps and performance typical ones of these drives: 560MB/s read and 530/MB in writing.

We have to wait for a possible commercialization in Europe, just to understand at least the position in the lists. The units are intended for the consumer audience, so they should be accessible in terms of price.
