Surface Hub 2 to debut from 2019, with a second version in 2020

A family destined to expand and change over time that of Surface Hub: the 2S model to debut in 2019, followed a year later by the Surface Hub 2X update that will implement new features.

In mid-May 2018, Microsoft announced Surface Hub 2, the second generation of the big screen. On that occasion, the company outlined its technical specifications, but indicated a commercialization starting in 2019.

At the Ignite conference that is being held these days, Microsoft provided further details detailing how the products in the Surface Hub 2 range will be available over a 2-year time frame. During the second quarter of the 2019 fiscal calendar, Microsoft will make available the first product in the range, referred to as the Surface Hub 2S.

This is the product that the American company showed during the month of May, characterized by a 50.5-inch diagonal screen with 4K resolution. In fact, Surface Hub 2 will offer the same features of the Surface Hub now on sale, but with a difference in terms of design and overall size without actually changing the software component.

During 2020, Microsoft will update this product with some new hardware, which will be implemented through a special connection in the back. Surface Hub 2 provides an interchangeable processing module, which allows you to update the system without having to intervene on the display component.

This true hardware upgrade will allow Surface Hub to offer features that were initially anticipated in May but that Microsoft can clearly provide and implement only later.

Microsoft identifies this second version with the name Surface Hub 2X, promising for this compatibility with Microsoft 365 (Windows 10, Office 365 and the management and security enterprise tools) as well as support for new features such as dynamic rotation, multi-user authentication and the tiling of different screens placed side by side. This is a two-stage innovation then for Surface Hub 2, a product that, for the rest, is intended to be used for a long time.
