TeamViewer Pilot shows the concrete applications of augmented reality

Version 14 of TeamViewer brings interesting new features, especially with regards to UI and the update system. But the real star of the show is TeamViewer Pilot, which combines remote support and augmented reality.

We arrived at the fourteenth edition of TeamViewer Remote Support, a software that needs no introduction given that it is used by over 200 million users and is installed on something like 1.8 billion devices. Compared to the past, the performance and the user interface have improved, which can now boast a dark mode, adapting to the recent UI trend.

Also streamlined the update procedure: instead of having to install a new version every year a quarterly update model is now provided. What makes the new incarnation of TeamViewer intriguing, is the support through augmented reality technologies that promises to revolutionize the concept of remote assistance.

TeamViewer Pilot: augmented reality done well

The term augmented reality is a used often if not out of proportion in an exaggerated way. The many applications available are often reduced to more or less well-done pastimes or to extremely vertical applications. There are exceptions, and TeamViewer Pilot is one of them. Let’s think of a rather common scenario: the boiler of the house goes to block, and you have no idea how to restart it.

A trivial problem, often solved with a call to assistance, a call that in most cases will be spent trying to understand the precise model and to guess from the instructions of the operator which is the correct procedure to restart it. A procedure that Pilot can greatly simplify thanks to the use of the telephone only: not only, the operator will be able to see the model and condition of the boiler, but will highlight directly on the smartphone the commands to be touched, as shown in the explanatory video.

TeamViewer IoT for the business world

Residential complexes, shopping centers, smart farming and smart factories are some of the realities for which TeamViewer IoT is designed, a solution to control and manage with great simplicity the large volumes of IoT devices and sensors used in these industries. Deployment is incredibly simple: you install the software, register the devices on the network and everything is ready to be controlled remotely. Security is guaranteed by end-to-end encryption.

TeamViewer IoT

It is worth noting that all TeamViewer applications, including Pilot and IoT, remain free for private use, while specific business plans are available for business customers.
