The new Start Menu arrives on Windows RT

With Windows RT 8.1 Update 3 Microsoft introduced the new Start Menu in Windows 10 platform for ARM devices. Here’s how it works.

Microsoft has recently released Windows RT 8.1 Update 3, the latest update to the platform designed for ARM architectures available via Windows Update. The most obvious is of course the new Start menu taken from the version of desktop environment, but we also minor changes to the lock screen, and more. We do not believe that the update will allow the platform to return in life.

The company has already announced that Windows RT devices will not be upgraded to Windows 10 and no longer receive major release. It is basically an implicit admission that Microsoft has proclaimed the death of the platform for ARM processors. The arrival of Surface 3 somehow budgeted, since the device offers the advantages of a thin form factor with passive heat dissipation combined with an operating system without limitations.

Explains the new interface of Windows RT Microsoft itself, in a substantial post on the site of official support.

Windows RT Menu

  1. Header : the place of residence username and profile photo. Here we also find a small power button.
  2. List of pinned apps : the window in which applications are ” pinned “, or blocked.
  3. MFU, frequently used applications : applications that are used frequently but not added manually by the user.
  4. All key apps : to access the list of all applications installed on the system.
  5. Search Box : to search the system or online.
  6. Grid applications : where to insert the Live Tile on the applications installed on the system.

The new Start Menu, thins aesthetic differences between Windows 10 and the Platform for ARM processors. Windows RT has never been a particularly appreciated by the public, and the sales figures of its devices represent a clear proof. It is clear that Microsoft cannot give up with so little advance the platform. We talk about software that will not see many changes in the near future, and this could be his swan song.
