VLC released for the new Apple TV: It supports almost all video formats

VLC is extremely versatile Apple TV. Just like on your desktop, you can also play music and radio online, with information on artists and tracks that are collected by the service Hatchet. There are still some shortcomings (some venial): for example, you cannot play video from services in the cloud, like Dropbox or OneDrive, although the company (VideoLAN) is already working on technologies to support the app on the cloud.
