Western Digital, at the start the commercialization of the hard disk series Gold by 12TB

Designed for server and Big Data environments, but not limited to, the Gold Digital Western Series hard drives are now also available in 12TB cutting, always offered with a 5 year warranty from authorized distributors.

Western Digital is one of the very few companies remaining active in the mechanical hard disk market, whose demand is very high regardless of the sector in which they are normally used. From PCs to servers, there are still many areas in which a mechanical hard drive has many advantages over SSD solutions, because not only is performance alive. A mechanical hard disk has a significantly lower cost per GB compared to hard drives, while also providing very high capacities.

In the wake of these considerations, we point out the commercialization of a new Western Digital mechanical hard disk of the Gold family, or the 12TB model that joins the existing range (1 TB, 2 TB, 4 TB, 6 TB, 8 TB and 10 TB). These discs are designed for the server world and to cover those needs highlighted by the Big Data phenomenon, incredibly greedy for storage TB.

WD Gold 12TBThe Gold units fall into the so-called professional or enterprise sector, even though their use in other areas is not precluded. In addition to the aforementioned capacity of 12TB, the unit is characterized by a rotation speed of 7200rpm, 256MB cache, SATA 6Gbps interface and various technologies aimed at the use for which it is intended.

Some examples? With the Dynamic fly-height, the distance of the head from the plates is always under control, to ensure constant performance and optimized reliability, while reducing errors at the same time.

The annual workload is 550TB, one of the highest in the industry, while the MTBF is 2.5 million hours, calculated on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for which the unit is designed. WD Gold 12TB, indicated by the model number WD121KRYZ, is sold with a 5-year warranty.
