Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note 3: Comparison and Differences

A few days ago, Samsung announced the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, the successor of one of its best models. But it really is a step forward compared to its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3?

To understand this, we tried to compare the specifications of the two models, putting them next to each other in an attempt to find similarities, differences, strengths and weaknesses. Having clear one thing: the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 came out for a while, and there was the chance to try it and test it thoroughly. The new model no, it’s too new to have reviews and extensive testing.

So, for once, we have to trust the word of Samsung, and make a comparison between Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note 3 based on the official information.

The Screen

And let’s start from the screen, which for both models is a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED. Change the pixel density of 386 ppi for Galaxy Note 3, 550 ppi for the resolution of Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 4 brings us to 2560 x 1440. This results in the possibility for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to manage details and to have a better graphic performance. Personally, I think it is an advantage for the more multi-window and multi tasking rather than for watching videos or photo galleries. There is another difference between the two screens, and a greater viewing angle. Seems to be due to sagging, light the display. So light you do not even realize rendersene, to the touch, but it can give you a better overall performance.

The Processor

The processors are different, and of course the Galaxy Note 4 is more powerful than the Galaxy Note 3, The processor is a 2.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 (in some markets will be an octo-core Exynos 1.9 GHz) with 3 GB of RAM. The Galaxy Note 3 instead uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 2.3 GHz 800, again with 3 GB of RAM. It is worth noting that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is the first smartphone to come out with the new 805 chipset, the latest developed by Qualcomm. This processor is already designed to support the future of Android 64-bit, when it comes out in the near future.

The Memory and Battery

The Galaxy Note 4 comes with an internal memory of 32 GB with microSD support. The Galaxy Note 3 instead has three variants: 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, with microSD support always. The Galaxy Note 3 also has a shrewd with DropBox that allows you to have 50 GB of space free for two years. It will probably be so for the Galaxy Note 4, data convergence sandwiched between Samsung and DropBox.

Identical even the battery from 3,220 mAh for both models, with support for advanced power-saving function. There is no way to know, on paper, if the Galaxy Note 4 has been optimized enough and what is actually the difference in autonomy between the two devices. The only thing is to wait to have a 4 notes between your hands for a few days and do a little evidence.

The digital camera

The camera of the Galaxy Note 4 is 16 Megapixel with aperture f/2.4 and optical image stabilizer. Allows you to shoot high-definition photos and record video in 4K Ultra HD quality. The front camera is 3.7 MP with f / 1.9 and an angle of 90 degrees, expandable up to 120 degrees in the mode selfie.

The Galaxy Note 3, on the other hand, uses a 13 MP camera on the rear panel, and a 2 MP on the front. It seems evident that the Galaxy notes 4 is a step above the photo compared, both for recording video for taking photographs.

Conclusions

To conclude a single mention of the operating system. Both use Android, updated to the latest available release, with custom TouchWiz interface. Custom applications from Samsung are on the whole well done, especially those designed to use the S Pen, the digitizer pen that lets you write and draw. The nib of Note 4 is great, much better than the already excellent on the notes 3 Even in this case to understand what the real difference in everyday use needs to be done a few days of testing.

So, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is the successor improved, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is superior to the processor, camera, S Pen and memory. It is not clear if the range is greater than or similar. In any case, if I may express a suggestion, I would consider buying a Galaxy Note 4 now if I had to change my Android smartphone. But expect a few months to replace the Galaxy Notes 3 with Galaxy Notes 4, at least enough to take advantage of the rapid depreciation of the Samsung smartphone.
