Microsoft announces Surface Laptop 3: 15” display and with AMD and USB-C CPU
Surface Laptop 3 is the new version of the Microsoft laptop, just presented at the October Surface event. The 15-inch model is added to the 13-inch display model with the new generation.
Microsoft presented its new Surface Laptop 3 laptop dedicated to the Surface ecosystem. The biggest news concerns the fact that there will be a model with a 15-inch display in combination with the 13-inch display model already seen in previous generations. The latter will also be updated, and both models will include a USB-C port.
The surface will no longer be in Alcantara, with a full aluminum chassis that will make Surface Laptop 3 more similar to competitor solutions of the same level. The Alcantara surface of the past generation was subject to rapid wear, while the new solution will surely guarantee greater longevity. There will also be new color options.
Microsoft has also talked about fast charging (up to 80% in less than an hour), with a 20% larger trackpad, while the battery will guarantee autonomy throughout the day. As for the specifications, the 15-inch model will be the top of the range with AMD Ryzen 7 processor customized by Microsoft and AMD Radeon RX Vega 11 GPU.
The 15-inch model can be equipped with up to 32 GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 1 TB of SSD storage space. The storage unit can be replaced if more space is needed.
For the 13-inch model, the user can choose from a wide selection of Intel Core 10th generation processors, up to Core i7. There are more memory limitations, with a maximum option of 16 GB of LPDDR4x RAM. At most, the handset will accommodate a 1 TB SSD but, as for the previous model, the unit is replaceable.
According to Microsoft, the 13-inch display model, with its most powerful configuration, is three times more powerful than the MacBook Air. As for prices, Microsoft has talked about $1,199 and $999 respectively, with preorder starting today in the US.
