Microsoft releases Cortana on Android in beta

Cortana lands on the Google Play Store in the public beta program of Microsoft. The server can replace Google Now as proposed default on devices of the green robot.

The voice assistant Microsoft is already publicly available for Android. Although currently only in beta, Cortana has landed on Google Play Store. The software can be downloaded and installed by all users enrolled in the beta-testing program. The public beta comes after a short period of public test, in which Microsoft had delivered its software to a small number of users.

One of the main innovations of the last build released is the possibility to fully replace Google Now, the integrated assistant on several Android devices, pressing the Home key. What is lacking is the ability to access Cortana through the exclusive use of the voice function which we know is very present on Windows-based devices. The implementation of functionality would be more complicated on Android because of the varied structures of the different smartphones available on the square.

Cortana on Android

Like the version for Windows, Cortana for Android can take advantage of a variety of user information to deliver results more precise and also proactively (often without the need for a request from the same user). Cortana can inform us of an event or public places in the area where we are, but we can also deliver sports scores, weather information, set an alarm or a reminder and more in the wake of Siri and Google Now.

The landing of Cortana on competing platforms had been anticipated by Microsoft itself. The virtual assistant will arrive on iOS in the near future, although we do not believe that we will implement the same radical because of the limitations imposed by Apple on the App Store.

Cortana for Android is for now only available in US and for US users, and downloading can be launched as is normal from the Google Play after he enrolled in the beta program.
