The new Apple MacBook Pro 16-inch hides a mysterious sensor: What is it?
iFixit and MacRumors have found a new sensor inside the body of the new Apple MacBook Pro 16-inch that remains somewhat mysterious about its complete use.
The new Apple MacBook Pro 16-inch was recently presented, and some blogs / journalists have had the opportunity to get their hands on it. For a few days, iFixit has shared an article regarding the disassembly of the new Mac showing the components and the build quality with which Apple has cured the new flagship product of the house as regards notebooks.
Some things have been changed such as the scissor keyboard, the new thermal architecture and other design changes, both external and internal. MacRumors has also had the opportunity to try the new 16-inch MacBook Pro and has found a new sensor, updated compared to that of previous versions, located in the corner of the body.
As the main task, this sensor should take care of detecting the opening or closing of the MacBook screen itself, signaling to the software the movement that will consequently, result in the display turning on in case of opening and standby in the opposite case. The new sensor of the MacBook Pro 16″ seems more sophisticated, there is also a magnet incorporated in the hinge itself with an arrow indicating the polarity.
According to iFixit, the new sensor could be an intelligent way for Apple to keep track of how often the display is opened, closed or adjusted. Another speculation would also lead to think that the sensor could also be for a hidden function of macOS.
It should also be noted that following a repair of the display, the official Apple service must calibrate both the new screen and the sensor we have talked about so far, otherwise the repair cannot be considered completed.
