Tips for retouching a Screenshot

Did you take a screenshot of your PC screen but need to touch up the image? You don’t have to stare at the screen waiting for divine lighting: there are several editors available on the network (free or paid) that can help you in your business.

Some tools are even already pre-installed on the PC. The effort will be very minimal. In the proposed list, you will find some tips to touch up a screenshot on Windows in a simple but effective way, and above all within everyone’s reach.

Paint

Yes, it still exists and is in great shape (thanks to some recent updates). After making the screen, you can paste it (using the appropriate Paste command, located in the toolbar) in the program screen and start editing the image as you wish. In particular, you are offered the opportunity to: rotate, resize (in percentage or based on pixels) and crop the image as you wish, as well as add text (by pressing on the A at the top) and draw (thanks to the brush icon ).

Capture tool

The Windows capture tool is an ” all in one ” tool: it allows both to take a screenshot (by clicking on New and dragging the mouse cursor to select the desired screen area) but also to modify the image produced, albeit in a very simple way.

The editing options are limited: with the Pen tool, you can add freehand lines and with Highlighter mark some specific areas of the image. Eventually, you can cancel all the changes made by clicking on the Eraser.

Photoshop

Let’s get to the heart of the guide with some more professional and specific programs. In particular, Photoshop is the most popular photo-editing program in the world. It is a paid tool (a free trial version is also available), belonging to the Adobe suite, used mainly by professionals in the sector, but this does not mean that its use is exclusive. If you do not have too many claims, the base of the tool of the platform will also be useful for editing a simple screenshot.

You can adjust the hue, contrast, and color of the image. By selecting the corrective panel on the fly (in the bar on the left), you will be able to eliminate the internal imperfections of the image (the famous retouched wrinkle). Of course, its functions go well beyond those presented and are very complex: if you want to learn more, you can take a look at the basic guide made available by Adobe.

GIMP

GIMP is an open-source image editing software, considered by many to be the free alternative to Photoshop. When the program starts, three windows will appear the tools panel, the image plane, and the Layers window (if you don’t give what they are, don’t worry, you can still make your corrections in peace).

Once the image is inserted (by dragging it in the central pane or selecting the File -> Open commands), you can start your work: balance the color, change the contrast and even use filters, giving the image a comic effect or applying shadows. Again, the possibilities are immense, so much so that you need special guides, like this one.

Autodesk Pixlr

If you want to edit your screenshot professionally, but don’t want to download and install special programs, you can always resort to some software available only online: Pixlr is the one for you.

By clicking on Pixlr Editor, you will be sent back to the suite for editing images (the interface is very similar to Photoshop), where you can, for example, make shape corrections (resize, rotate, ..) and apply filters.
