HERE Maps available for free on Android

Launched at first only on Samsung devices, HERE Maps has now added full compatibility with most Android devices.

Arriving on iOS. Nokia is not dead, indeed. Microsoft acquired the division Devices & Services, but Nokia are still many other branches that do not want to slowly disappear from the consumer market. Until now, several months, HERE Maps was officially only available on Samsung devices, although it was possible to install it with specific procedures on other devices. The new version adds, in addition to full compatibility with Android 4.1 and later, support for turn-by-turn on an additional 18 countries, which become total 118. There are also the usual bug fixes and performance improvements.

HERE Maps is a satellite navigation software that is based on the use of the Internet connection to download maps and route planning, although it is available offline. Among the additional features are the ability to view traffic information or to share your location, the route and time of arrival via SMS or email. It is the alternative of Nokia to Google Maps, which makes use of external services to those of Mountain View for information on public places (HERE TripAdvisor uses, for example) and on the routes to be addressed.

Nokia also announced that, based on feedback received from users iOS, the company decided to develop a version compatible with iPhone, with the official release planned for the first months of 2015. HERE Beta is available for free on Google Play Store this address.
