12 things you might not know – OS X Yosemite 10.10

A small list of changes and new features less obvious that Apple has built into the OS that we will see in the fall.

Apple has not yet completed the development of the future OS X Yosemite 10.10, the system that we will see in the final version in the fall. We are meanwhile daily using the preliminary version, pointing out little by little, as our practice, the most interesting findings.

We’ve compiled a small list of changes fewer obvious little things that maybe not everyone knows about. Here they are listed below:

1.) iCloud password. OS X 10.10 allows you to use the iCloud password to log in to your user account on your computer.

2.) Currency Converter. You can use SpotLight to convert currencies, for example, is enough to indicate the price in $ to get the fly conversion to the euro updated in real time.

3.) Rename files in batch. OS X 10.10 offers the ability to rename groups of files. Selecting a group of document with the right mouse button / trackpad now appears in the context menu ” Rename elements ” with which, as you can guess, it is possible to change the name in multiple files simultaneously. You can replace a specific text in the group, add, change format.

4.) Networking. Apple now uses Multipeer connectivity, allowing Mac and iOS devices to connect to so pious a simple WiFi network or Bluetooth. The technology in question allows you to communicate with neighboring devices through a peer-to-peer is via Bluetooth and / or WiFi without the need to connect to the Internet.

5.) SMB3. Apple has built-in support for Yosemite Server Message Block Version 3, the network protocol used by Microsof (already supported on Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012). This sharing system is faster and more secure.

6.) New sounds in Messaging. In the Messages Apple has integrated new sounds for incoming messages. You may recall from the ” General ” Preferences application.

7.) New icon for System Preferences. In OS X Yosemite 10.10 beta 2 has been redesigned icon that allows you to call up the Preferences.

8.) Energy Saver. The Energy Saver Preferences refer now to an icon in the shape of LED bulb, instead of one in the shape of old incandescent light bulb.

9.) Disable transparency. To give more emphasis to the content, in Apple OS X Yosemite has made some transparent interface elements. Through the toolbars, for example, you can see behind the window if there is something else that we are sliding, while the sidebar glimpse of what’s behind the active window. The interface in this way it blends with the background of the desktop, and with what we are doing. If you do not like the effects of transparency of the new system, you can disable them by selecting ” Accessibility ” System Preferences and then ” Reduce transparency ” in the Monitor menu.

10.) Green button. The green button in a dialog now allows you to start applications in full screen (if your applications support this mode). Pressing the Alt key control activates the classical mode of previous versions of OS X.

11.) New options for signing up. As already with OS X 10.7 onwards, also in Yosemite, you can scan your signature to no paper using the FaceTime camera; the novelty of OS X 10.10 is the opportunity to sign with your name using the trackpad.

12.) After performing a search with Spotlight, just hold down the Command key down to display in the window of research from the path of the selected item.
