Acer Iconia A1-830 Review

We had a chance to try the new device on the line produced by Acer Iconia presented in January by the name of A1-830. As some of you maybe have guessed, this tablet is the successor to the Acer Iconia A1-810 with respect to which it differs in a more refined design and a slightly revised hardware which led to the transition from plus Mediateck SoC to Intel.

What remains constant is the inspiration taken from the Apple iPad Mini with whom he shared the above form-factor of the screen. This device lies in the low-end market where it still manages to shine over competitors through greater care taken in some details such as the back cover and the metal frame that contribute to make your Acer a proposal to be taken into account.

Acer Iconia A1-830 – Design

We start from the dimensions that make record 203mm in height, 138.4 mm in width and a thickness of 8.15 mm that allow the Acer tablet to be comfortably held with only one hand thanks to the limited weight to 380grammi that make it easy to handle in almost any situation.

To make a difference in this market is certainly the rear shell made of aluminum alloy that gives Iconia A1-830 a rugged look and certainly more valuable than money and the display would have us believe.

Acer Iconia A1-830 – Hardware

Acer Iconia A1-830-3Compared to its predessore equipped MediaTeck, the new Iconia proposes an SoC Cover Trail Intel Atom dual-core (4 threads) Z2560 1.6 Ghz flanked by 544MP2 PowerVR SGX GPU and 1GB of RAM.

The device comes with 16GB of internal memory expandable thanks to the presence of the door to the SD card and there are certainly the most common sensors such as GPS and Bluetooth 3.0.

Obviously, this is Wi / Fi 802.11b/g/n limited to the bandwidth of 2.4GHz, making it fast enough. On the upper side, there is the port for the connection Micro-USB, headphone jack and a 3.5 mm microphone system while on the back are two speakers that, while offering a slight metallic sound and weak bass, were sufficient for the needs of the average user.

As for the battery, Iconia A1-830 is equipped with a 4000mAh that during the test I was always allowed to get through the day with the average use / intense as when used in a blander (use from the couch with web / e-mail/e-book) managed to pass without too many difficulties two days without needing to recharge. Leaving it on standby instead can overtake very abundantly week.

As noted earlier, the detail that most distinguishes Iconia A1-830 IPS display is the form factor of 4:3 in contrast to what is generally offered by competitors predilogono the now-classic ratios 16:9 or 16:10. The diagonal is 7.9 inches. The color calibration is nice, and the screen offers good brightness in any situation even if it is to point out the lack of light sensor.

Consistently good viewing angles as well as the reactivity thanks to the ” Zero Air Gap ” used by Acer to reduce the distance between the touch surface and the display. What I obviously compromise is the resolution offered from the screen which is limited to 1024 × 768 pixels equivalent to the density of 162px per inch. This figure is certainly a step down from the current standard of tablet-also-and this market has proven during the test, the real Achilles heel of the device.

The rear camera does not 5 Megapixel certainly a miracle (especially when the light is scarce), but as is now well known, the tablet does not have the right tool to capture photos of a certain level. Same thing should be done also for the front 2 Mpx that is useful in the case of video calls with Skype or similar.

Software and Performance

The Acer tablet is factory installed Android 4.2.2 Jelly Beam (that the house should update to KitKat in the short term) interface with virtually stock and the addition of some proprietary applications over the entire suite Amazon and the always convenient Astro File Manager.

These are unfortunately affincate a series of indispensable app is not exactly as 7digital Music Store and Agoda hotel-booking. During normal use there are no reported major delays or lag and indeed, the experience is for most of the time very smooth, unless they are held in the background too open for applications.

Acer Iconia A1-830 can display almost all video formats, including MKV-without difficulty thanks to the services offered by Intel. Web browsing is generally good but the context in which it appreciates the new model created by Acer reading the e-book that is extremely comfortable thanks to the 4:3 form factor even if a higher resolution had certainly made it more justice to images and text characters.

It’s doing unexpectedly well in the field of gaming where, thanks to the limited resolution of the screen that allows Intel GPU and not to go too much in trouble, it offers a good frame rate and general performance in reaching sufficiency. When using intense is to report a slight warming in the lower part of the device but obviously, nothing that precludes its use.
