Samsung announces new Galaxy Tab S2 with SuperAMOLED display

The Koreans have announced the new line-up of high-end tablet family Galaxy Tab S2. Both models incorporate panels SuperAMOLED, a special characteristic of the company.

The Korean company updates one of the most successful families of tablet last year that in our ranking had reached second place, behind only a Surface Pro 3. The new models differ in form factor and in aspect-ratio display adopted, but continue to adopt technology SuperAMOLED. In the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 also changes the SoC, now more powerful and with a support instruction set to 64-bit.

Where previous models used diagonal 8.4″ and 10.5″ and an aspect-ratio of 16:10, the new adopt a structure similar to that of the Apple iPad. The diagonals are 9.7″ and 8.0″, the resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 pixels, and then the aspect-ratio of 4: 3. It is a choice in line with Nexus 9, that Samsung had already opened in this generation with the Galaxy Tab A cheaper. The new Galaxy Tab S2 make use of a panel SuperAMOLED (although we do not know whether or PenTile RGB matrix).

In terms of design, the choice of Samsung fell on metal frames around the edges and a rear shell plastic without texture. The two tablets are extremely thin, even more than the iPad Air 2 establishing a structure made entirely of aluminum: have a profile of 5.6 mm, and stop the scales at 265 and 389g, specific and probably very interesting record of the current entire product category. It will be interesting to see what will be the experience of use of both products with numbers so reduced.

In terms of hardware, Samsung has chosen the processor Exynos 5433 owner for the new Galaxy Tab S2. It is a very powerful solution (the same found on certain variants of Galaxy Note 4), but certainly not comparable to Exynos 7420 that we find on Galaxy S6. Samsung chose to contain production costs the new SoC would guarantee the presence of a memory more performance (LPDDR4) and greater energy efficiency due to the 14-nm.

According to the statement released by the company, the two tablets are expected internationally in next August. We not yet know the prices: according SamMobile new Galaxy Tab S2 could be offered to $399 and $499 for the Wi-Fi versions, respectively, for models from 8″ and 9.7″, while the LTE variants may have a list of $469 and $569 in the European market.
